Blackpool Winter Gardens
The Winter Gardens is a large entertainment complex in the centre of Blackpool town, it was first opened in 1978 and the grade II listed building currently houses twelve venues, a ballroom and extensive conference facilities. Blackpool Council secured funding for a £40million buyout from Leisure Parcs LTD in March 2010, which included the Winter Gardens, Blackpool tower and other sites in the resort.
Situated around 250 metres from the seafront, the centrally located Gardens occupies most of its 200 metre block and enjoys much of the seaside foot traffic. The 3,000 seat Opera House is one of the largest theatres in the UK, and the site boasts a 12,500 square foot Empress Ballroom which is one of the biggest of its kind in the world. The Pavilion Theatre was part of the original 1978 build and has been altered and refurbished in the passing decades.
